Topography results from the interaction of tectonic displacements lifting or depressing the earth's surface and surface processes which change elevation by erosion and deposition. At large spatial scales, there is a complete feedback between erosion/deposition and tectonic stresses and the resulting structural architecture.

At fine spatial scales, many geomorphologists are interested in the manifestation of recent earthquake displacements in the landscape.
